On wings spanning 9 feet they are a vision of perfection in flight.  Taking advantage of thermals, soaring to incredible heights and traveling great distances, they are seasonal summer visitors to Jackson Hole, wintering in California and Mexico.  Unlike their cousins, the Brown Pelicans, they don't dive for fish.  They instead are cooperative feeders, forming a semi-circle and herding fish to the shallows where they are vulnerable.
