" An elk had collapsed and perished while crossing the Lamar River in the Northeast of Yellowstone. A cold spell moved in freezing the river over completely and embedded the elk in ice. I waited nearby as several coyotes gathered for a taste of flesh. One coyote trotted close by along the frozen river in a lovely flowing motion that wasted little energy this frigid December morning."
